Rambling Tuesday #2

Public Domain
It's time to ramble.

I just wrote an entire rambling blog about politicians that is sitting unpublished.

Why?

Because most of the people that read my blogs are not politically excited.

Actually, neither am I.

In fact, politics, as a topic, is rather boring.  Politicians do the same things, over and over, and believe that they are creating a show for the entertainment of all the voters.  The sad thing is ... none are being properly judged.

What if politicians were judged in accordance with the rules of television shows?

Can you see politicians ending an appearance, or speech, and being immediately graded by a panel of three or four judges?  No, not news analysts that make a living spreading even more El Toro defecation.  But, let's say that these judges were just ordinary people, like you or I.  People that actually had some brains, could see through the B.S., and properly analyzed what the politician had said.  Wouldn't that be a change?

Take, for instance, the recent discovery of how much money Vice President Biden spent for only two nights stay in Europe.

Judge #1 -  Cissy, the Blogger Goddess:
"Vice President Biden ... you say that your night in London was a public relations journey.  If so, how come most of the citizens of the United States never even heard about your overnight stay?  Isn't a good will tour supposed to be advertised so that people actually know that you're doing something besides sitting in your hotel room watching porno flicks?   Was that night really worth spending over $400,000 of the taxpayers money on the hotel.  That's a lot of those little drink bottles, wouldn't you say?  Sorry, you get a score of "2" for your efforts."

Judge #2  -  Bobby Joe Jenkins, the Redneck CPA:
"Vice President Biden ... are you serious?  You don't even speak French, yet you have the audacity to spend almost $600,000 for one night in Paris!!!  That's one hell of an expensive hooker!  Besides, who cares about the French?  Just a few years ago, we were calling French Fries "Freedom Fries" because the French wouldn't fake a war with us to go after Iraqi oil reserves that Chaney wanted.  And now, you're paying them outrageous sums of money to spend the night in a hotel room?  Damn it, man, don't you have a bed on the jet?  No way, Jose, I can't give you more than a score of "1" for this shamble!"

Judge #3  -  Flashinthepan, the Rapper:
"Hey V.P, now you listen to me,
you can't spend my money on porno TV,
if ya gonna go to Europe to see the sights,
ya gotta find discounts where ya spend the nights.
Ya beat my record spending cash you see,
two nights overseas, cost over a million to me.
Yo dummy, don't do this sh*t no more,
Coz ya stupid all ya gets is a "1" for a score!"

If the politicians couldn't average at least an average accountability score of "7", out they go.  And, if either political party failed to have a total average score of at least "6", out the whole party goes.  Perhaps that would keep special interest voting to a minimum, and more concern on taking care of those that voted them into office in the forefront!

But, I just went political blog on you, didn't I?

Sorry ... I said I wasn't going to do that.  My apologies.

I know, I get a "5" for making an honest effort at explanations, plus "2" bonus points for honesty.  At least I'm still in the running.

I wonder how many politicians really run?  Not for office (because that's really not running, is it?  My friend Clark has wondered about that for years.), but actually put on the jogging shoes and hit the street.

Do you?

I remember the days when I ran five miles in the morning and five miles in the afternoon.  I preceded each run with Jumping Jacks, 50 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, and 100 four count toe touches.  I had a body that was trim, six packed, and energetic.

Makes me tired just typing about it now.

I've recently started walking at least two miles, twice a day.  The Winter wind makes one's pace quicken somewhat.  I'd like to say that it gives me time to think.  However, the only thing I'm thinking about is getting it over so that I can get back inside where it's warm.  If I continue this throughout the Summer, I imagine the only thing I'll think about is getting back inside of an air conditioned building where it's cool.

So much for thinking!

Perhaps thinking is over rated.  Much like the Big East Conference was in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tourney.

Other news items this week:

  1. The $338 million dollar Powerball jackpot was won by an immigrant from the Dominican Republic that had to speak to reporters in Spanish.  (Maybe now he'll have enough money to learn how to speak the native language of the country he calls home.)
  2. Wal-Mart has sued workers and their union for protesting for better working conditions.  The company says it disrupts working processes.  (In other words, get back to the sweat shop and stop bitching.  Otherwise, we'll let you go to Dollar Tree and see how you like working there.)
  3. It's been discovered that 1 in 4 car seats are being used incorrectly.  This has resulted in it becoming a major factor in causing car deaths in children between 1 and 13 years of age.  (You gotta be kidding!  What 13 year old ever gets put in a car seat?  "Yo, mom, let's go to the doctor's office so I can get my birth control pills ... and, are you sure my car seat is fitting properly?")
  4. 28 prisoners are now participating in a hunger strike at Guantanamo Bay.  They are protesting more cell searches and security cameras that record their every move.  (O'bama has hinted that if this progresses, the money saved on food may be used to start up the White House tours again.)
  5. A 75 year tradition of having toll takers will end for the Golden Gate Bridge as they go
    http://www.projectrich.com/gallery
completely to electronic toll takers.  (Now, the $6 toll will be taken completely electronically via pre-paid ticket or by charging your license plate.  So, if you haven't been to California and you receive a bill in the mail, just remember, the Rice-A-Roni police are everywhere!)

Well, that's going to do it for this week's rambling.  My brain is dry, and so is my throat.  Hopefully, will see you next week!  Till then,

Ramble On, My Friend!

  1. Boy, you really got on a roll: politics, Wal-Mart, Guantanamo, car seats...oh my! LOL
Let's see...politicians are all bought out and represent the 1% and I don't care if they are teaparty, republican, democrat, libertarian, green, blue, pink, purple, and insert whatever else here party.
But then, all good revolutions degenerate into governments.
Though things are very askew at the moment.
Um...and the car seat thing. Oh my god, I don't have kids, but I think somebody with a lot of money hyperfocused on child safety and managed to "buy" the laws that would put such ridiculous overprotections in place. Seriously? It's a wonder I made it to my 33 years HAVING NEVER been in a car seat. I get that they help; so do helmets.
But that's like saying someone with a lot of money "bought" a law that would make everyone wear body armor every time they rode a bike or motorcycle.
Yes, we need car seats. But when your kid is bigger than you are (I teach elementary kids that are taller than I am) and they have to be in a car seat, something is VERY wrong.
Have a great day, Rich...and thanks for the laughs. LOLOL

    1. Cyndi - Ah, my rambling counterpart, how are you doing? I think most politicians have gotten themselves caught up in the Wizard of Oz complex ... thinking they're something they're not. Actually, if most were forced to be graded for accountability, I'm afraid none would pass the test. It's such a sad state that democracy has fallen to be such a play toy of the rich. I remember when the floorboard of a car used to have a center hump (before front wheel drive cars). As a child, I stood on that back seat hump most of the time as my parents drove different places. The thought of a car seat then would have been ridiculous. However, our Land Of Lawyers have created such needs for laws from the stupid lawsuits over the years. Instead of car seats, those that cause the accidents from phoning, texting, and such while driving need to be kicked in the seat! lol "Person who drive with head up ass cannot see stop light!" Glad you enjoyed! Many Thanks!

  2. Oh Rich great rambling as always and seriously love how you would grade our politicians and think you are totally onto something there. I would love to see this show and think it would be a hell of a lot better then what is on our TVs nowadays, lol!! :)

    1. Janine - So happy you stopped in, my friend! There is absolutely no accountability factor for politicians. There has to be a grading scale established. In addition, like any other job in the U.S., there has to be a way for the public to fire them, immediately, for inadequacies. Right now, they can get away with just about anything, because the only ones that can force them out of office are the other politicians doing the same things they are. It's a ridiculous situation. I'd almost like to have a panel made up of regular citizens assessing the performance levels of politicians, and getting rid of those that don't meet the standards they preach so highly. That's when the Beach Boys could start singing, "Wouldn't it be nice" again! lol Many Thanks!

  3. This was an excellent post. I hate politics probably more than most people, but it was interesting and kept me entertained. Now, I am all in an outrage over what my taxes are going for. Geesh, I am sensing another rant post from TAM sometime soon.

    1. Tamra - So good of you to drop by! I'm really not a fan of the political scene, by any means. I feel like I'm watching the same show, year after year, and only the faces change. Perhaps the American public isn't as dense as we think and will stand up and make a change in the near future. Naawwwwwww! People are more like sheep these days and are just waiting to be led to the slaughter. I can't wait to see your rant! Many Thanks!

  4. I love your 'Roll'! This thing with Biden's trip is mind dumbing. I've always wondered why the media never really reported on Nancy Pelosi's use of Airforce 2 as her personal airline- even moving her family around the country on all expense paid vacations. ON US. The Jackpot being won by a non-speaking immigrant is just frosting on the cake. Ya gotta love America!

He'd be cheaper and get almost as many laughs! lol America will never let us down ... especially those of us that need material for humor. Many Thanks!

So glad that I came across your blog. Politics is not exciting but how you poke fun at it, certainly is. ROFL

Her and I seem to be on the same wavelength on many of these things ... kind of scary, huh? lol I just try to cover enough topics to have something of interest for everyone. In other words, I don't know when to shut up! : ) Really appreciate you stopping by! Many Thanks!

  7. Jee whiz, I don't know where to start! I thought it was mainly over here that workers were striking. (Things look very peachy over in the good US of A from over here just FYI...) Car seats..what are those? Good grief. You must see how many stupid "parents" let their kids stand on the front seats while they're driving, or sit without seatbelts!!! What would I do with $338 million. Oh my goodness. For one person to win that amount of money?! I wonder how much tax is taken off there. Interesting post this morning Rich! Definitely got the balls in my head rolling a bit! ;)

    1. Melanie - Good morning, my friend! Many of the state governments are now making labor unions illegal here. This eliminates any power the working man had to negotiate the rate of pay they would receive. In other words, the rich get richer and the poor have no avenue to better themselves. It's a sad state of being we now find ourselves in. Car seats are mandatory in the states for youngsters. These are mini seats that connect to the main seat of the car that imprison the youngsters from moving. They eliminate the need for the parents to exhibit common sense while driving and texting at the same time. lol Taxes are now over 40% on lottery winnings. The government is going to get more than they deserve any way they can. How else could they pay for such outrageous hotel bills as the vice president has incurred? What amazes me is that if you win that amount of money you pay high taxes, but, if you're a CEO and earn that amount, the IRS has tax shelters available so that your taxes are minimized! Just another case of the rich taking care of the rich. Sad ... but true! Many Thanks!

  8. Politicians the world over are well.......caught in their own little world. They have the LEAST understanding of the issues that concern the masses...because they are too protected to be embroiled in them. Thanks ro sharing!

  9. Are you serious? OMG - see? That's why I avoid politics if possible, I keep thinking about how many mouths that 600 G's would feed - and yet it's piss in the wind in just one night for the wealthy!

I am so glad you threw all that funny stuff in there! It's like adding sugar to bad medicine.

    1. Kelly - Really good of you to visit! I can totally understand your viewpoint. I get really ticked off that they get away with so much, while the rest of humanity has to make due with so little. Put them in a minimum income level position and they'd quickly find out what life is all about ... when they were homeless! I'd like to start a retirement home for them ... called jail. lol Many Thanks!

  10. one of my favorite 'family legend/stories' when I was growing up was about the time when we were driving to some relative's house in our 1955 Ford and one of the car doors opened by itself and one of us (children) rode the door 'out and back in'. The door closed itself 'cause my mother had the good sense to swerve the car in the opposite direction.*
now tell, how the hell are kids growing up today going to have the opportunity to have that kind of adventure? and not to mention the family bragging rights as the story gets told and re-told.

*What? no, we continued on to grandma's house, *of course*!

    1. Clark - My apologies. I received no notification of your comment being made. I, too, remember standing on the floor hump in the back seat area and a door flying open as we went around a curve. I also remember my dad getting on me about it as I was the blame for not closing it completely. (Sometimes maybe falling our would be better, lol) Kids will have only memories of video game high scores these days, I'm afraid. Or, perhaps how they spent their lives at the mall. So sad. Many thanks!

  11. I love your idea for a TV show for politicians. Although I have to confess that I might not watch. I'm pretty lazy that way and rely on my husband to just tell me if there's something major going on. With that said, one of the saddest things of all regarding politicians of my side and the wrong side is that I truly believe they start out wanting to make a difference, believing in their power to change things and then get sucked into the bureaucratic vortex of bullish@t that comes from lobbyists, their parties, slow moving congress, slow moving everybody, and then not much changes. It's too bad really. Because there are some things that need to change already. Sigh. Now I'm getting bummed out.

You ran five miles in the morning and the afternoon? Dude. I'm impressed. That's hardcore. And I'm jealous! And holy crap, a 13 year old in a car seat? Yikes. Now, of course, I wonder if I'm using my 3 year old's car seat correctly. Huh.

Love your ramblings! It's so awesome to follow your thoughts. It's like an insider's glimpse into your brain. So cool.

    1. Kristi - Good to see you at this past post. I'm really not a fan of politics either. Same old / Same old ... all the time. You'd think they'd understand they've been tagged as useless crap ... but it may be beyond their comprehension as they live in their fantasy worlds. I really did run that when I was younger. It was a daily part of my life. Then, I moved to Alabama, felt the humidity fill up my lungs, and got old and fat. Marriage had something to do with it, too. lol OMG, a look inside my brain ... how scary just to know there's one there to see! I've got to be more careful! Many Thanks!
