Twisted Mix-Tape Tuesday #35 ... The Behind Bars Edition

Here we go again ...

another Twisted Mix-Tape Tuesday!

On this week in which we are to be thankful to our ancestors for fooling the native Americans into thinking we came in peace and were really good folks that believed in sharing, we honor a topic of which the Native Americans know the white man well for ... things that should put us in jail!

When I was young, I used to argue with my history teacher who preached the concept of "Manifest Destiny."  He would stress that the white man felt it their destiny to span across the globe and seek out new lands to nurture.

Of course, never being one to be quiet and accept El Toro Defecation, I would argue that the white man simply stole old lands from the original inhabitants and continued to steal everything they could get their hands on.

He didn't like me much!

I wish I could tell him today that things haven't changed much.  The only difference is that the color of the skin really doesn't matter anymore as the greedy and wealthy will steal from anyone and everyone they can get away with.  Oh, and that they do it either under the guise of being a "big business" or "politician."

Gee, sounds like "The Establishment" is stronger than ever, doesn't it?

Then, why don't they end up in jail?

You know the answer as well as I do.  The people who rule the legal system are wealthy, too!  It would be a travesty of justice to put one of their own in jail.

Give Martha Stewart an ankle locator and let her stay at home under house arrest, for God's sake!  Why, if you were to put them in jail, they might learn something!  (Or, teach something to those already there!)

Stealing?  Since when would that get you in jail?

And, we all know if one commits murder they'll end up facing life imprisonment
or the electric chair, right?

Of course, we could possibly declare ourselves legally insane
and face the woes of an asylum.

Even suicide can get you locked up if you're not careful and fail to complete the job.

But, sometimes you just get totally fed up with the American justice system
and feel like you've got to do something about it.

So, you can either try to accomplish your act, and possibly go to jail, or, you can say,
"The Hell With It" and party.  But, be careful how and where you party.

And, if you're not careful, even pleasuring oneself
can get you in trouble and land you in jail.

Of course, there's always the conventional way of curing your ills
and having some extra spending cash.

Just remember, guys like this are waiting on you.

So, why not just be good for a change, enjoy a little time with family,
and have a

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Ciao!!

  1. This was a fun mix! And another A-ha! moment for me when I realized Three Dog Night not only sang stuff other than Joy to the World, but also sang Mama Told me Not to Come (I'm partial to Tom Jones singing it 'cause that's the album I have it on). And I always loved the Divinyls song. A fabulous one hit wonder :)

    1. Louise - So good of you to stop by the party ... in jail! I thought I'd keep it light this week. Only took about twenty minutes to put together. (I know, I'm slacking!) Three Dog Night did the song long before Tom Jones did. In 1970, they're version was all over the airwaves. The Divinyls ... well, that one was for fun. lol Many Thanks!

  2. I'm going to have They're Coming to Take Me Away and I Touch Myself stuck in my head now. Great picks with the Three Dog Night songs and Uriah Heep.

  3. RIP Chrissy Amphlette of the Divinyls, thanks for your specific, peculiar place in rock history.

Love this list. I wonderd who drop the Snoop, and it was you. They should teach Mama Told Me Not To Come in schools

    1. Lance - My dad always told me you could kill yourself if you did it too often! (I know, bad joke.) Yeah, I couldn't forget Snoop, especially here. See, I did listen to gangsta rap many years ago. I just don't care for today's manufactured junk. Still, I try. Maybe if Chrissy had been taught that song in school ... no, I'm not going to do it. Not another bad joke. Many Thanks!

  6. Uriah Heep, wow. That takes me back. While of course I knew Randy Newman's Mama by TDN, Murder in my heart for the judge was not one I knew. I interviewed Chuck Negron a few months back and got to meet him when he played here, easy interview and nice guy. Very diverse list, liked it.

    1. Kath - Thanks for dropping by! TDN did a great job with some of the harder material they performed. They had great musical ability beyond the vocals. Still, I had a hard time with Joy To The World, as I knew Hoyt Axton had written and performed it. I'd heard Chuck turned to God to get by his addictions. Good to hear he's well. Many Thanks!

  7. Quite an edgy title for Elton! Thanks for sharing, Rich!

  8. Love you added Snoop and then Junior Brown. This is great. Touch Myself is still on my playlist for everyday listening. I agree with what you were saying. My youngest daughter is in 2nd grade and of course they have been learning about Thanksgiving or how it's taught in school. Not sure if it's right or wrong, but I did talk with her and explained that the Wampanoag tribe had been holding harvest celebrations for many years before the Pilgrims arrived on North American land. I found it strange that her teacher sent copies of the quizzes the second graders would be taking after Thanksgiving break about American Indian Tribes and the quizzes are broken into 3 groups because they are 7 & 8. However, the Wampanoag tribe is not mentioned. Which I know for a 2nd grader, to memorize every tribe and bands would be impossible. The 3 mentioned are the Dakota tribes, the Lakota tribes, and the Powhatan tribes. Last summer we had a huge family reunion and my cousin dug, studied, and spent many weeks until she traced it back that Chief Powhatan is my 12 great, great, great grandfather. (I'm unsure about how many "great" goes in there. Which I was excited to learn but also reasonable enough to know that a lot of people in Virginia can trace their roots back to The Powhatan Confederacy. Thanks for sharing a wonderful post.
