Mondays are for the Birds ... and so is Beef / Broccoli!

Linda ... the illustrious one!!
(Yes, I stole your picture, Linda!
But, it's for a good cause!)
Linda has been so damn nice to me.

I feel like a true ass!

She's invited me so many times to join in this hop and I've had an extremely difficult time finding the time to provide proper writing time to do so.

Time is a problem in more
than the above sentence.

I work at a real job somewhere around 70+ hours a week.  This doesn't leave much time for writing.
  1. My wife requires a little bit of my attention, though that has dwindled over the last 33 years.  (Damn near down to nothing, these days!  I need a new wife!)
  2. My cats require some of my time.  (One jumps in my lap while I'm typing, and the other brushes against a USB cable connecting my external hard drive so that the "Cable Unplugged" notification keeps appearing in the screen!)
  3. And, there's sleep that's somewhat needed, even though most of that takes care of itself nightly as I conk out in my computer chair.  (No wonder the doctor wonders where the pinched nerve in my back comes from!)
But, Linda's been kind, viewed many of my blogs, and comments all the time.  Plus, she's one hell of a musician (a group I have a kinship to).  So, it's time to get off my butt and write for the hop!
Now if I just knew what to write about.

Let's see, today (my one day off this week) I've already written three blogs for different release dates.  Plus, I've got to come up with something hilarious for Halloween before everyone else beats me to the punch, and my wife is hounding me about doing a family Thanksgiving blog.  (If she only knew where that one may go ... muhahahahha!)

So, I could talk about the current political fiasco in Washington, D.C., but why?  I mean, the idiots leading our nation could care less about it so why should we?  I do feel it's nice that all the senators and congressmen have volunteered to pay the wages of all the workers that won't be paid for the time they lost during the government shutdown, especially since the politicians didn't lose one single penny in the event.
What?  They didn't volunteer that?  Why, those rotten bastards!
I'll remember them next election!

What's strange is that I've already had emails from 3 local politicians today, concerning the gun control bill that the United Nations has had signed by most countries, and how this is the perfect time to have it jammed down out throats!  Now, I have to ask myself, "Is the shutdown a distraction to hide the gun control bill from us, or is the gun control bill a distraction to hide the Obamacare conflict from us?"  Anyone got a coin?

Or, I could talk about how Chinese take out Beef & Broccoli never tastes the same when microwaved the next day.  Most beef gets tough and chewy when reheated.  However, the beef in this dish only turns slimy and rubbery, and the rice gets tough and chewy!

Is that really beef, or could it be something else?
Hmmm!  Maybe I need to change my choice of eating establishments!

If I wanted to get into extremely bad taste and dark humor, I could discuss the massacre at the shopping mall in Kenya.  I can see some husband, asking his wife that survived the incident, I don't give a damn how much you saved on distressed merchandise! Couldn't you find something else to do besides shop while you were held hostage???"

But I think I'll leave that one alone.

Or, we could discuss Miley Cyrus' appearance on Saturday Night Live, and her admission that Hannah Montana is now dead.  Miley doesn't realize it, but to most of us, so is her career!  Perhaps she and Britney can get together and reminisce about the good ol' days ... before they made stupid decisions that ruined their audience appeal!

(Your release, "Wrecking Ball", kind of says it all, doesn't it, Miley?)

So, I'm stumped.  I've run out of topics.  This is why I hate Mondays!

All the good topics are gone!

Sorry, Linda.
I tried.
Maybe next time.

  1. I read this with one cat sweetly curled up in my lap digging her claws into me. The other cat is draped across the back of the chair throwing off the balance of the chair and leaving me worried she will fall on me - and break her fall with her claws. I'm not touching politics and all I will say about the Kenya incident - seems like something a bunch of husbands would stage to get out of shopping.
Lastly, thanks for reminding me of Halloween. My children are asleep and I had not been reminded of the upcoming holiday and the need to immediately figure out this year's costume for an hour. :)

    1. Heather - So good of you to visit here! Your cats sound as loving as mine ... and I've got the scratch scars to attest to that! :) I really debated about the politics. I'm so tired of the games Washington plays with all of us. As you can tell, I don't care for either party. Love your take on the Kenya incident. I had several more jokes to go for, but I thought it too soon and them way too dark for this posting. Maybe later. Halloween ... damn, I'd almost forgotten. That's the one night of the year I have to stay away from home until after all the Trick or Treating is over. lol Many Thanks!

  2. Ha! Kudos to you for actually writing a post for the hop - I linked one from last week! Just couldn't muster one for today since I'm mix taping it tomorrow. Oh, and I so hear you on the reheated Chinese food. My son eats leftover sesame chicken straight from the fridge, because he doesn't like it microwaved. Makes it easy for me, so whatever floats his boat...

    1. Dana - Good to see you! After writing three other posts, I was at a complete loss for what to write here. (Obviously!) I still have to mix tape it tonight, but have my Wednesday "Raised on Radio" posts ready for the next three weeks. (whew!) I can handle the combo fried rice microwaved, but I think Beef & Broccoli has seen the last time in the microwave for me. Many Thanks!

  3. Ha! Well done for making it in to IDLM.

Will have to see what kind of tricks Linda (and previously, Kristi) have managed to turn to get you to participate of your own free will. Cos goodness knows TToT is still running lonely without you...

    1. Lizzi - Good of you to visit! Primarily, it's the time factor. I had Sunday off this week, so I was able to write four posts. TToT hits me during the week when time is sparse. If I do the FTSF as I've tried since it began, I'm struggling to find time to do anything else. Believe me, it's not that I'm avoiding TToT, it's simply that my schedule and it have a hard time getting together, especially now since I'm writing a weekly post for Raised On Radio. I'll do my best to get over there soon! Many Thanks!

  4. I love this post and I think you will make Linda proud! I'm with you on the broccoli beef thing---you gotta wonder about that mystery meat in there. Switch over to pizza---but skip the anchovies.

    1. Marcia - So good of you to stop in tonight! There are times that one wonders, "Have I simply obligated myself out too much?" When full topics evade me, I simply have to go with the flow and see if snippets will work at all. Some do and some don't, but at least the effort is there. :) That reminds me of the old J.Geils Band song, "No Anchovies, Please." And, I couldn't agree more. Many Thanks!

  5. haven't watched SNL yet, it's sitting quietly in the DVR for now. but, must recommend that you watch Miley: The Movement, an MTV creation. it probably won't change your life or anything, but i can at least say i am no longer worried that Miley is on drugs.
and i approve of the lyrics, this is my mouth, i can say what i want to. don't approve of her clothing choices, including the old lady Coco Chanel she sported for the documentary.
i have no response to her wrecking ball video....think the song is powerful, but could have been better, and the video was just a wreck...period.
anyhooo, i am still on team miley, and no, i didn't grow up watching her on disney. i just like the notion that at some point in her life someone said, "miley, you can do anything you set your mind to, be it voting or earning more money than god or dancing crazily on the VMAs," and she took those words to heart and did whatever she wanted!
my philosophy: bottom line, don't let your pre-teens watch MTV and cut Miley some slack.

    1. Misty - Thanks so much for stopping by. I remember Britney and Christina, and even Leann Rimes (who still is to some extent) going thru a stage where they were somewhat rebellious. Still, it seemed as though they had a little common sense while the experimented. And, believe me, I'm not against her testing the limits. I just think she's completely off the ledge at this point. As far as the VMA performance, hell, that's what the VMA's are all about ... shock factor. I seem to remember Howard Stern as Buttman and several other incidents on past shows.

It's her attitude towards some of those that loved her that bothers me. She's completely forgotten that fame isn't there just because it once was. Worse, she's completely turned against her core audience. Personally, I don't think her voice is all that great, especially for pop music. She's going to get ate up by the real talent in that genre (if you can call it that). I never watched her on Disney, and really could care less about her scandals. What I don't like about her is her complete disrespect for anything and everyone. Her ego is completely out of control. When she does fall, which probably isn't far off, she's going to hit hard. It's a shame that those people advising her (who will later cast her aside) are leading her down such a disaster filled path. And, yes, I bought her album today to review it in a future blog. I'll be fair, but from what I've heard in the videos so far, she could do much better. But, that's the beauty of music and stardom. Not everyone has to love you or your work to be successful. However, when those that don't surpass those that do, usually your music doesn't get played and the press only finds the bad things to report ... until you're old news. But, that's show business! :) Anyway, let's agree to disagree on this one, okay? Many Thanks!

    2. agree....to disagree, sort of. can't wait for the album review. i think she always sounds country and always sounds like she needs to clear her throat.

    3. I actually purchased the album "Bangerz" late last night (along with six others ... yes, I'm really obsessed with music). I'm going to give it an honest listen and then do a review for future posting on Raised On Radio. I agree about the throat clearing. In a way, she could almost .... almost pass for a young Stevie Nicks in her nasal vocal styling. Still, it's different, so there's room for it. Many Thanks!
